Today is Remembrance Day.
For more years then I can remember, I have put on a poppy and thought about my grandparents and all of the men and women who have fought in wars before my time. This year was different. This year my thoughts were also of my friends and old classmates who just came home from Afghanistan. I thought of the people still over there.
Today everybody was looking at the old men in the crowd. I was looking at the boys who just came back from a war. Almost nobody knew who they were, or what they had just been through. Nobody thinks of them as Veterans. I know I didn't use to.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them. We will remember them.
